Blog Going Down
I am in the process of moving my web hosting to another company, so the blog and other "spanocomputers.com" services will be down for a while. I'm not sure of the timing on this, but I thought I would give everyone a heads up.

Another Doctor's Appointment Down! And Other Exciting News...
Well, there are only 9 weeks left of gestation for the kumquat...wow that sounds like it is so little time! And actually, at this point in the week it's much closer to 8 weeks! :-o Well, the doctor was pretty happy with weight (lost another pound), the kumquat's heart beat (he/she was hiding for a while though ;-) Must take after Jason!), and my fundal height. He was not, however, all that happy with my sugars. :( After our bbq extravaganza a couple of weekends ago it seems like it was SUPER hard to get it back down. I've severely cut down my carb intake to help keep it low, but am still worried that it will turn out I need insulin. We could definitely use some prayers for the health and safety of the kumquat! :)
My dad got the rototiller from BMS and Jason was able to get the whole front yard done; it was lots of hard work and I was tired just watching! ;-) So now all we need to do is rake and seed the lawn. Of course by "we" I mean "Jason". :-P I'll be the cheerleader. It will be nice when all the hard work of the yard is done and we're just left with maintenance and enjoying it.
Jason's not on call this weekend so hopefully we'll get to enjoy it. Mass in Las Animas on Saturday, Jason's first official time as a reader down there! And then Sunday, we may go to Pueblo, I really want to get a maternity swimsuit because I'm thinking I want to go to the pool often this summer...it's sooo hot already! I can't imagine how much worse it's going to get....only 8 more weeks...;-)

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Hail!
I haven't posted anything on here for while... so I guess I'll tell the story of... The Big One.
Jeanine and I had just finished watching Mary Poppins when we thought we heard leprechauns dancing on our roof, but it turned out to be some monster sized hail! I was going to run out and grab one that landed on the front lawn, but I was terrified for my life! So I took a long shot with my camera phone:
After it was all over, Jeanine wanted to feel one, so I grabbed one that was quite a bit smaller and took a picture of it in her hand:
This one had been sitting outside for a while in the 80+ degree heat. Still pretty impressive though!

Weekends Should be 5 Days and Weeks Should be 2!
The weekend is just too short! We had a great weekend though! :) On Saturday morning we got up and went to the Lamar Days Spring Sprint and walked 1.5 miles. It was terribly slow for Jason, but a great pace for me! ;-) I hope that next year (when Jason can carry the baby!) we can do the 5K instead...but I might still just walk it! ;-) There was free breakfast afterwards, but unfortunately (for me anyway, fortunately for Jason!) it was breakfast burritos...PMC's breakfast burritos, that I always loved! :( Jason got one, but I had an apple. Then we headed for the parade start at the Co-op, we met up with Louise from PMC and her family's horses and the buggy. We got to pet the horses too...and they were super soft! :) After what seemed like FOREVER we started the parade route. I decided to walk because there were quite a few adults and older kids in the wagon, even though it was supposed to be for the kids, and those who couldn't walk (like the 7 1/2 month pregnant girl aka ME!!!!). I made it from the co-op to just past Safeway, and then thankfully Michelle's nephew wanted to walk so I was able to ride the rest of the way. Jason was holding my jacket along with Louise's and then Louise suddenly realized that she didn't have her phone. Jason went back to look for it, but he forgot to tell me so for the rest of the parade I didn't know what happened to him! Some people from Colorado East were behind us and found the phone and called Jason back (he'd called about 9 or 10 times) and said they'd give it to him back at the co-op. Well, he figured that they would get there fast so he RAN back...ALL the way back....from Radio Shack! :-o It was far!!! And he was feeling pretty out of breath when he got there! ;-) After the parade we went back to the park and enjoyed some bbq! :) It was expensive, but yummy! I paid for it later though as my blood sugar was REALLY high that night...there will be NO more bbq sauce until after the kumquat arrives! I was pretty much toast after that eventful day so we rested for a few hours, went to Mass in Lamar and then Jason took me for a steak dinner at Hickory House! :)
On Sunday we got up pretty early (Jason did let me sleep in until a quarter after 5AM and even had toast going for me!), so we could head to Denver to see his grandma. Despite hitting some construction and then traffic delays in town, we met up with his grandma, Bob, his uncle George and Ruth at the Legion for breakfast. After breakfast we went back to his grandma's to visit for a while. She's not doing so well, the tumor is in a place that makes surgery very unsafe. Not to mention that she is not safe for surgery as she's got a heart murmur right now as well. She is being treated with some steroids to hopefully decrease the inflammation and limit the effects she's getting from the tumor, which include strokes and memory loss as well as some fine motor skill loss. :( She could really use some prayers right now. We left fairly early and stopped in LA to see the Spano fam and played Aggravation (which I totally didn't want to play because well, I don't know, I just don't like it that much) but that I WON!!! WooHoo! Pretty much the only time I've actually won something there! Then Jason came in second!!! We were an awesome husband/wife duo! :) After leaving there we stopped at the Schmidt house and hung out with my folks for a while. We talked about video games and homeschooling! :) So thankful that despite knowing that my parents are maybe thinking we're nutty for wanting to do it...they are supportive and loving about our decisions! :)
It was a great weekend to spend time with family; Saturday was our small, growing family time day and Sunday we spent with more of the family! It truly is a blessing!

Work, Work, Work!
That's all it seems Jason and I have been doing this week! The health fair was this week at PMC and they had lots of computers out for use, so Jason had to go in early everyday this week to get them set up and has been otherwise extremely busy all day long. And into the evenings as well! :( It seems as though these things happen on weeks he's not on call.
I put in to work PRN at Holly Nursing Home and at times for Juniper Village in Lamar, for RehabCare and was to have my first day/orientation be on Wednesday. But, Monday I got a phone call asking if I could start helping out sooner, like the next day, because the PTA that treats patients at both facilities has been swamped at the Lamar facility. So, I officially started back to work on Tuesday afternoon and have been working a couple hours every day since. I will also be working at least Mon-Weds next week too! :-o It's kind of weird going back to work, even if it's only for a couple of hours a day. I have to plan out my days a little bit better!
I think Jason and I are BOTH looking forward to this weekend, and relaxing! On Saturday morning we are doing the Spring Sprint 1.5 mile walk and then we are going to check out the rest of Lamar Days. On Sunday morning we're planning on leaving early to go see the grandma early as she hasn't been feeling too well. I'm also hoping to talk Jason into taking me out for some hot wings on the way home! ;-) As long as I don't eat breaded ones, they're a 'free food'! WooHoo! Oh yeah, and also only if they don't use sugar in their sauce...but really, with hot wings, who would?!
Well, time to work some more, going to finish getting dinner ready and baking some cookies (that I can't even eat!!! Talk about torture!) for Jason to have, and to take to Sue Portner's going away potluck tomorrow at PMC. She and Dr P are really good people, and have done a lot for me! :) PMC will definitely miss her!

Crazy Start to the Week!
Well, Jason and I had a great weekend. He got up early (and lovingly let me sleep in! :-D) on Saturday and worked super hard in the backyard clearing out branches and moving rocks. We decided to have his sister do just the front yard at this time, since we're using seed, and if everything works well, we'll do the back in the fall. This saves us some money if it doesn't grow well, as we do have 13,000+ square feet! :-O On Saturday night we went to Mass in Las Animas and Jason had more drama/excitement from Fr. Grimes about how he is receiving Holy Communion (on his knees), so that involved a little 'discussing' with the priest and hopefully that gets resolved soon! Sunday we went to brunch at Bent's Fort Inn with the Spano clan and everyone else had the buffet, while I had a burger and salad (since I could eat half of the bun, and most stuff on the buffet was super carby). We played games for a little while, but around 3PM Jason got called into work so we headed home for him to save the day. Which he did of course! ;-)
Monday I had my doctor's appointment along with an appointment with the Nurse Practitioner and the Dietitian. I have been doing pretty well, but was still really stressed that the doctor was going to say that I needed insulin. Jason wasn't able to go with me to the appointments because this week is the Health Fair at PMC and he had to get computers set up for everyone. :( The Mom went with me, and my mom would have gone too, but she took Friday off and couldn't take Monday off too. The nurse practitioner was pretty negative (as she always is) talking about giving insulin and how I'd likely need a c-section because the baby will be too big. :( Needless to say, I left her office sort of freaking out. Then it was onto the dietitian who gave me meal plans that were pretty much the same as the stuff I had, except that she was giving me MORE carbs. That made me nervous and I told her and the NP that I was nervous because I hadn't been eating the amount of carbs I could and my numbers were pretty high. Both seemed to not address that. :( So, onto the doctor. I lost 4 pounds! :-O The change in diet and the walking must have done that! But, since I'm overweight, it's not a concern right now, if I KEPT losing weight, the doc might get worried, but makes me feel good for after the baby is born. Dr Hall was totally impressed with my sugars and gave me a little more leeway. I had been told fasting should be 60-90 and 2 hours after eating 60-120. He told me he's OK with it being up to 100 fasting and 140 2 hours after eating, so not to worry about my 125-130's. He also said I could drop to 2 pokes a day! WooHoo! Just fasting and 2 hours after lunch. Then we did an ultrasound to see the size of the baby. I told the tech we didn't want to know the sex of the baby, and she was relieved! She said 'whew, then I don't have to look!' Apparently she's a rare u/s tech who'd rather not bother. The kumquat measured perfectly for 29 1/2 weeks (which I am!) and weighed about 3#5oz. So cool! The doctor mentioned something about inducing "sugar babies" at 38 weeks, but I'm really hoping with another ultrasound in a month, if everything is still normal he'll let it slide. Though, those last two weeks are when they gain lots of weight, so we'll just have to pray.
Today I'll be going to Holly Nursing Home to work for a few hours, I might even make enough for my car payment! ;-) I did a little bit around the house and some errands but mostly just rested this morning so I don't have to worry about being super tired tonight. I've got a yummy dinner planned and I want to have the energy to cook it! :)

The Beginning of the End...
...of the pregnancy that is! :-D We are officially in the third trimester! WooHoo! That's right, the countdown has really begun! Our little kumquat will be making his or her appearance in just about 12 weeks! :-o That sounds soooo soon! Luckily I've been working to get things ready. Last night Jason got the hutch (aka the kumquat's dresser ;-)) cleaned and IN the room and today I am washing all of the clothes, linen, and diapers we have so far. Next will be organizing! Maybe nesting has begun?!
Week 2 of gestational diabetes has also started, and it's off to a pretty good start. I've had the majority of my numbers be in the zone since Sunday, and thanks to a chat with my mom and dad, I think we're working on figuring out the trends. According to my dad, some foods that are 'safe' or even 'free' in my books that the dietitian gave me increase his blood sugar to the point of it being high for days. So, we'll look at what I ate and not just whether I'm in the zone of carb counting, as some stuff might just affect me more. Yesterday was my first day with my fasting sugar being in line, and I'd eaten an apple for a snack before bed. I ate a banana yesterday and my 2 hour blood sugar was great, so I thought I could eat a banana with my snack last night, but this morning woke with a little high of fasting sugar. So, while bananas might be OK for me to snack on during the day, I should probably not eat any right before bed. I'm getting it...;-) Also, I was told to walk 30 minutes every day so last night Jason brought up the treadmill and we found a good place for it in our room. I've used it twice so far, so that's pretty much a record for me when it comes to exercising! :-D
Last night we measured our yard out, as we've successfully talked Jonnie into planting our new lawn for us. ;-) We have A LOT of yard...I told Jason if we ever move, he better not EVER think of a corner lot again! I'm sure we'll be happy there is plenty of space for the kids to play later...but as we were calculating last night, 13,000 sqare feet of grass is an awful lot! We're hoping to get this done next week, so we have some work to do to prep everything for her this weekend. Since Jason's class is over now, we can work on it on Saturday. Is it weird to be excited to do chores together?!! Well, I am anyway! :)
