Small Success (Vol 4)

Oh hello blog readers, here you thought I might be getting back into the habit of blogging, what with a couple posts last week and all, then lo and behold another week goes by with nothing. Sigh, such is life. I've been hoarding pictures of the boys because I thought they would make great blog posts. So, this week's small success post is going to be picture heavy.

Small Success Thursdays at CatholicMom.com
It's important that moms realize that the little things add up, that what we are doing is making a difference, that's why CatholicMom.com uses Thursdays for moms to talk about our successes of the week.

1) I've been working more on less screen time and more time of one on one play to help with Christopher's speech as well as helping Dominic with his conversational speech. So this week I made a conscious effort to plan our days a bit better and I got some craft stuff for the boys to try out.

We also worked on reading together, and put together a puzzle.

I took the boys to see the local "dinosaur train", and we walked around the Enchanted Forest.

2) On top of the increased one on one time, I've managed to keep the house mostly up too, but I'm trying to take my focus away from dishes, laundry, and vacuuming. Somehow, by taking my focus away from that and onto the boys, I've still managed to get everything done. It even seems easier. I'm sure it's a fluke.

3) I've cooked mostly healthy meals all week, and the boys are even trying them. Christopher is tasting more foods every day and I consider any day that I don't have to resort to PB&J a complete win!

Head on over to CatholicMom and see everyone else's successes as well as sharing your!

Quick Takes - Vol 18

I started listening to audio books recently, and have been enjoying it quite a bit. My library uses Overdrive to lend books and audio books, so I downloaded the app and use it to listen to the audiobooks. I'm "reading" things that I had never read before, and I'm having to do it a bit more thoroughly than normal. I'm a skimmer, but with this, obviously, I can't really skim.

The boys and I went to the local community building where, on Thursday mornings, they have a free parent and tot play time. They throw out some toys and balls in the gym and the kids can run and play. We were the only ones there yesterday, but it was still a lot of fun.

Dominic came in yesterday while I was trying to make the bed and fold laundry. He was less than helpful.

We did not get the major cold that everyone else did, I mean it got colder than it has so far this Winter, but nothing like they were getting in the Polar Vortex. Nonetheless, the boys and I have been spending a good part of the days (read: all.day.long) inside. Primarily this is because they hate to wear coats or anything, and so they can't really handle being outside for very long. Today though, the sun was shining this morning and I took the boys out for a while. I was trying to teach Dominic how to throw snowballs.

I decided not to buy Diet Mtn Dew for the house anymore. I need to drink a lot more water, so if I don't have any pop in the house I figure I will do a bit better with regards to that. It's only the first day, but i miss it already. This will be hard.

I decided to make Jason start the Insanity program again with me. My plan is to still get up in the morning and do my cardio at the gym, then in the evening, after the boys are in bed, doing the Insanity workout. So far this week I have not made it up at all to go to the gym. I'm not sure why, I barely notice my alarm going off in the morning. Tomorrow is a new day right? Anyway, Jason and I were both cursing my "bright" idea of doing Insanity last night. It definitely kicked our butts. In a good way. I think???

Jason and I have been playing Chess in the evenings too. I haven't beaten Jason yet, but I'm certain it's just a matter of time. ;-) I have managed to put him in Check a few times and the other night I even tricked him into letting me get my queen back! That was a good moment for me!

Is Anyone Out There?

I'd be surprised if there was anyone left reading! It's been 2 months since my last post and so much has happened! I'm trying to get back into the swing of blogging, though I'm not even sure how I got out of my swing.

We had a great Thanksgiving, we had our big meal on the Sunday before and then on Thanksgiving day we were able to have a quiet, relaxing day.

Advent went smoothly, if not as awesomely as I planned. We managed to do the prayers and readings for approximately one week. It was sporadic after that, if at all. Dominic didn't even eat his chocolate every day.

Christmas was great! We elected for a quiet Christmas at home and it was wonderful. Jason came home at noon on Christmas Eve and we enjoyed some appetizers for meals that day.

Dominic just ate spinach artichoke dip with a fork, can't blame him there, it's one of my favorites too. But then he got a big mouth full of just artichoke and did not like the texture. He was also not a fan of jalapeno poppers. ;-)

We also spent a lot of that day playing hard, it was in the high 50s and it was beautiful!

Of course the boys got some Christmas jammies, which I think might become a tradition, though I'm starting to lean towards fun, normal pajamas that are fun for any time of year.

The boys enjoyed all their toys, Dominic got a "Mac" truck and Christopher got some nesting boxes and they are still playing with them. Of course there were many more presents from grandparents, but these were the favorites of the day.

And other than that, we've been enjoying life in general. Christopher is really starting to make progress with his speech as he is starting to babble with different sounds than just his standard "eeeee". He is also following directions a lot better, though we're still struggling with some hitting that is frustrating, but we're plugging along. Dominic is wearing his glasses more frequently but it still isn't all the time and we're still struggling with that. Though when he wears his glasses now it is usually because he has asked to wear them, so I'm taking that as a positive line.
